She is invoked by the priest with the help of mantras, prayers and offerings presented and her blessings sought.
The puja commences with the priest cleansing himself. Before starting the Seva the priest draws a mosaic called Padmam (lotus). During the course of the puja, the Goddess is invoked, seated on this Padamam and offered naivedyam. This is followed by Prasanna puja which is pleasing the Devi with prayers. Chants of the mantra vibrating in the air, the ‘Pushpanjali’ or ‘Archana’ to the Goddess is done. Once the Pushpanjali is complete, the Goddess returns back to her abode.Bhagvathy Seva pleases the Goddess immensely and she is believed to shower her blessings on the devotees. The puja can be performed for specific appeals like having children, obtaining riches or overcoming obstacles. It is common to conduct this ritual for marriage, removal of fear or evil spirits and successful completion of projects. So much is the power of this ritual, that Bhagavathi Seva once a month is considered to be equal to thirty days of visiting a temple.
