Spinning in the right hand of Maha Vishnu, aimed to protect good over evil, is the disk-like weapon of the Lord, the Sudarshana chakra. There are several stories in our Puranas associated with the Sudarshana Chakra, it being used as a weapon as well as a boon of prosperity, peace and security. The divine chakra is believed to end sins and sorrows of all.
The Sudarshana Homam is a ritual performed to alleviate sufferings of any kind. This homam is performed by invoking Lord Sudarshan along with his consort into the sacrificial fire, to overcome enemies and sufferings. Performing Sudarshana Homa is believed to relieve devotees from any afflictions or diseases. This Homa is also conducted to vanquish enemies and as a protection from harmful things, negativity, evil eye etc.
The Homam starts with the recitation of the Sudarsana Manthra Japam. This is followed by invoking the deities of Lord Kumbam, Lord Varuna, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Naarayana and Lord Sudarsana, and Shodasopachara Aaradhanam is performed. Subsequently Agni Prathishtai is performed and Sri Sudarsana Shadakshari is conducted 108 times with aahuthi. The homam concludes with Purnahuthi.
