Located in the heart of Jalandhar city, is one of the 51
Shaktipeetas dedicated to the divinity of Goddess Durga. The old structure of
the temple, which is believed to be more than 200 years has been renovated into
a new shrine for the Goddess. The temple, during the earlier centuries, is
believed to have been invaded by foreign rulers, destroying its architecture.
There is also a Kali temple where the Goddess is worshipped as Tripurmalini.

Legend
When Lord Shiva's wrath at the death of his wife Sati manifested
as the Tandava which would destroy the Universe, Lord Vishnu's Sudarshan chakra
cut her corpse into pieces which scattered around the subcontinent. It is at
Kali Mandir inside the premises of the Devi Talab temple, the right breast of
the Devi is believed to have fallen.
Architecture
Devi Talab Mandir is the most prominent place in Jalandhar
City and is magnificent and vast structure. The pyramidal shikhara of grabha
griha is covered with plates of gold.
The temple has an old tank, which is considered sacred by the devotees.
Located in the centre of the pond is the temple of Mother Goddess Durga.
Goddess Kali temple and Sun temple are also situated in the premises. The
temple has a structure resembling the Amarnath Cave temple in Jammu and
Kashmir.
Culture
Jalandhar is the oldest city in Punjab and one of the oldest
in the country. The whole of Punjab and
the area of present Jalandhar District was part of the Indus Valley
Civilization. Jalandhar has many important places of worship including
Gurudwaras and temples. Jalandhar is famous for its sports industries and a
huge percentage of cricket equipment production of India happens here.
